Rancho Cucamonga, CA — The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) presented its 14th annual John P. Fraser Emissary Award to CVWD Board Member and ACWA Past President, Director Kathleen Tiegs. The award is given to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to California’s water supply through their voluntary service as active members of their community. This lifetime achievement award was presented at ACWA’s annual Fall Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, CA on December 4, 2019.
ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose 430 members are responsible for about 90 percent of the water delivered in California. During her time as ACWA president, Director Tiegs’ had an initiative to take the organization to the next level by holding eighty-six “Meet the President” events. Through these meetings, more than 230 agencies had their voices and opinions heard on matters that directly affect their respective service areas.
“[Kathleen Tiegs] has been a true ambassador of ACWA’s mission and a valuable member of the water community,” said ACWA President Brent Hastey.
“CVWD is grateful for the recognition of our efforts and for Director Tiegs’ commitment to ACWA for the past twenty years,” said CVWD Board President, James V. Curatalo Jr. “CVWD is an active member of ACWA and is a supporter of its mission, which assists us in serving the needs of our region.”
While she served on CVWD’s Board, Director Tiegs also served on ACWA’s Federal Affairs Committee, Local Government Committee and ACWA’s Region 9 Board of Directors. She also serves as Chair of the Southern California Water Coalition and as a California Special Districts Association Board Member. Prior to her CVWD board service, Director Tiegs retired from a career in water resource management, working for a wholesale water agency for more than 30 years.
