[ARCHIVED] CVWD Takes Residents on Water Journey via the Cucamonga Water Tour

Tour Participants Enjoy the Last Stop on the Tour - The Arthur H. Bridge Water Treatment Plant

The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) hosted its Cucamonga Water Tour on Thursday, May 18, 2017, for stakeholders, community leaders, and residents. The day-long tour featured numerous local water facilities, including tours of the District’s Lloyd W. Michael and Arthur H. Bridge Water Treatment Plants, recycled water and potable water reservoirs, and recharge basins. The highlight of the tour was a visit to the Department of Water Resources’ Devil Canyon Power Plant, in San Bernardino, which highlighted not only CVWD’s imported water supply, but the energy that is created and captured simply by water flowing.

“This tour offers a unique opportunity to see the journey water travels before being delivered to homes and businesses in our community,” commented CVWD Vice President Luis Cetina. “It was a great day to spend with our customers, to physically share with them all aspects of delivering a safe and reliable water supply.”

Participants gained valuable insight into CVWD’s water supply sources and how water is treated, stored and distributed to customers. Participants also learned about local and statewide policy challenges water districts face in ensuring a high quality, reliable water supply. This year’s tour also included a visit to a local home that has participated in CVWD’s Water Savvy Landscape Contest and Tour. The homeowners, Ron and Lucinda Pryor, shared their firsthand experiences of changing their turf yard to low-water use plants and the value and benefits they have experienced.

“What a fantastic tour!” commented tour participant Linda Ohlsen. “It was informative, fun, engaging and most of all exciting to see the passion from CVWD staff.”

CVWD is committed to educating customers and local leaders about their water supply and offers a variety of educational programs, workshops, and tours throughout the year. For more information, visit CVWDwater.com or call (909)987-2591.
