CVWD is pleased to highlight the completion of two landscape transformation projects at Old Town Park and Bear Gulch Park as part of the Turnkey Turf Transformation (T3) Program, a regional water-saving initiative led by the Inland Empire Utilities Agency in partnership with local water agencies.

The T3 Program is funded through an Urban Community Drought Relief Grant from the California Department of Water Resources, awarded to IEUA through the California Budget Act of 2021. The program focuses on replacing non-functional turf, grass that serves little practical purpose, with California-friendly landscaping and high-efficiency irrigation systems that reduce water use while maintaining attractive public spaces.

Through CVWD’s grant allocation, approximately 58,000 square feet of non-functional turf was removed and replaced with drought-tolerant plants and efficient irrigation at Old Town Park and Bear Gulch Park in partnership with the City of Rancho Cucamonga. Located near North Town Community Center and Bear Gulch Elementary School, these parks now highlight water-efficient landscaping for the community to enjoy.

While the new landscaping has just been installed, the plants will continue to grow and fill in over the next one to two years, further enhancing the appearance and water-saving benefits of the sites.
