The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) celebrated seventy-two local fifth grade students at the 30th anniversary Fifth Grade Poster Contest Awards Ceremony on May 13, 2019. The CVWD Board of Directors recognized the student artists, along with over 300 family members, teachers, school administrators, and elected officials during the awards ceremony which took place at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center’s Celebration Hall in Rancho Cucamonga.

Student artists and guests celebrated with fun and entertainment with local celebrity Joel Greene as emcee. Highlights included a red carpet experience, an art exhibit showcasing the Water is Life posters, a guest appearance from Rancho Cucamonga Quakes mascot, Aftershock, and a performance by Tomorrows Anthem, a youth band from the Rockstars of Tomorrow Musicians School.

CVWD recognized each artist for their dedication to learning about water. Joseph Trejo from Floyd M. Stork Elementary School was honored as the 2019 Poster Contest Sweepstakes Winner for his poster which demonstrated the importance of using water wisely. When asked what inspired his poster, Joseph stated, “It is important to conserve water to protect our Earth so it can flourish.”

All student artists were announced and presented with certificates of recognition from CVWD as well as from Congressman Pete Aguilar, Congresswoman Norma Torres, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes, Senator Mike Morrell, Senator Connie M. Leyva, Supervisor Janice Rutherford, and the City of Rancho Cucamonga. Additionally, they received gift cards to Barnes & Noble, t-shirts and other school materials that feature the student artwork. Sweepstakes Winner Joseph Trejo received an Apple iPad.

“CVWD congratulates all participating fifth grade artists for their inspiring Water is Life artwork which reflects the importance of water in our daily lives,” stated Vice President Luis Cetina. “Celebrating thirty years of the Fifth Grade Poster Contest is something to be proud of as we continue to educate our future environmental stewards to value and appreciate water.”
